Coaches and players talked after a scrimmage inside Commonwealth Stadium.
Mark Stoops liked where the team is conditioning wise. Stoops spoke about giving WR Charles Walker a scholarship. Stoops also spoke about the freshmen looked a little overmatched but that was a good thing because the older guys are finally looking more physical. He said Drew Barker looked good and was decisive.
Injury update: Mikel Horton has an ankle injury, Blake Bone missed the last two days with a hamstring but will be back soon. Darius West is out for the season with a patella tendon knee injury.
Drew Barker and Courtney Love
The starting QB was asked about WR Charles Walker getting a scholarship he was of course happy for hime and added the Walkers is, “one of the hardest workers I know.” Barker spoke about the offense in the scrimmage saying, “Overall we had a pretty good day.” Barker was asked about who stood out on the defense, he said the UK corners are really tall and long. Barker also mentioned, “Kobie Walker really made a lot of plays, stood out to me, coming off the edge he’s really fast he can play the pass and fit the run. He’s had a really good camp so far.” Barker said the offense scored on the two minute drill to end practice, Jeff Badet caught a TD with 16 seconds left.
Courtney Love was asked about tackling he said the team has to improve specifically mentioning wrapping up. Love said the team specifically the linebackers have to improve on getting off blocks. Love said the defense is reacting well to the loss of Meant and West. He said guys are working harder, watching extra film, now some guys need to take more of a leadership role.
