It’s officially game week in the Bluegrass as this Saturday the Kentucky Wildcats will open the 2019 season against the Toledo Rockets of the Mid-American Conference.

Despite not being a power-five school, the Rockets will be no pushover. They enter 2019 coming off their seventh bowl appearance in the last eight seasons and have had the MAC’s highest-ranked recruiting class each of the past three years.

As for Kentucky, they hope 2019 is a reincarnation of a historic 2018 campaign that saw them win 10 games for the first time since 1977. It will be no easy task to recreate that magic however as the team has a lot of holes to fill with Josh Allen, Benny Snell Jr. and the entire starting secondary from a year ago now in the NFL.

Kentucky enters Saturday against Toledo as 11.5 point favorites according to Oddsshark, but if they get off to a slow start like they did in last year’s season opener against Central Michigan, there may be no coming back.

Monday, head coach Mark Stoops previewed the match-up at his weekly Monday press conference. In addition, Stoops broke down the depth chart for week one and delivered the news defensive tackle Phil Hoskins will miss the first two games of the season due to an academic issue.
