It’s a game week in the Bluegrass as the Kentucky Wildcats (4-4, 2-4) will be back in action fresh of their second bye week as they’ll play host to the rival Tennessee Volunteers (4-5, 2-3) Saturday night.
All-time Tennessee is 80-25-9 against Kentucky and has won 31 of the previous 33 meetings between the two programs, including a 24-7 victory in Knoxville a season ago against a Kentucky team who entered play ranked 12th in the country. The Wildcats’ last win over Tennessee came in 2017, which was the Vols most recent visit to Lexington.
Despite having trouble taking down Tennessee the last three decades, Kentucky enters the match-up favored for the third straight year as opened as 3.5 favorites for Saturday.
Tennessee opened the season with an inexcusable loss to Georgia Southern and fell to 0-2 after a home loss to BYU in overtime. Since then, however, they have played much better as they’ve won four of their last seven games, including a 21 point victory over a South Carolina team that beat the Wildcats by 17 back in September. Thus, the Wildcats face a big challenge in a game that would go a long way in locking up a fourth straight bowl bid.
Monday, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops met with the media to preview the match-up with Tennessee and address the rumors that he may become the next head coach at Florida State with Willie Taggart fired.
