In the return of Naismith Player of the Year candidate Rhyne Howard, the No. 15 Kentucky women’s basketball team could not pull out a victory as they lost to No. 25 Arkansas by a final score of 103-85.
The Wildcats could not slow down the Razorbacks lethal three-point shooting as the Hogs hit 14 shots from behind the arc on 21 attempts. Arkansas also controlled the glass all afternoon as they outrebounded the Cats 38-23.
Alexis Tolefree and Chelsea Dungee shot the lights out of the baskets for Arkansas. Tolefree scored 30 points after shooting 9-15 from the field with seven three-pointers. She also went a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. Dungee went a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc and 8-12 overall as she finished with 24.
Kentucky got 20 points out of Howard in her return to the lineup, but she struggled to find her shot. Howard went just 1-9 from three and 7-21 overall. With Howard struggling, Chasity Patterson had a big performance off the bench for the Cats as she scored a game-high 32 points after shooting 11-18 from the field.
The Wildcats will look to get back to winning ways when they take on No. 8 Mississippi State at Memorial Coliseum next Sunday.
