The Kentucky Wildcats 2020 season got off to a rough start as they fell to the TCU Horned Frogs 5-1 in Fort Worth Friday evening.

TCU got to Kentucky starting pitcher Jimmy Ramsey early as with the bases loaded and one man out TCU’s Hunter Wolfe reached on an error by Wildcat second basemen Elliot Curtis which allowed two runs to score. The next batter Conner Shepherd hit a sacrifice fly to give the Horned Frogs an early 3-0 lead.

After a rough first inning, Ramsey settled down as he finished the night after throwing four innings in which he recorded two strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.

In the top of the fifth, the Wildcats scored their first run of the season as Cam Hill hit a single to right field that scored Austin Schultz and cut the Horned Frog lead to 3-1.

TCU would take control of the game in the bottom of the seventh as Sheppard hit a two-run triple off of Kentucky reliever Daniel Harper to give the Horned Frogs a 5-1 lead they’d never surrender.

Ramsey took the loss for UK while Haylen Green earned the victory for TCU after 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The two teams’ will meet again Saturday as Mason Hazlewood will take the mound for Kentucky and face off with TCU’s Charles King.

First pitch is set for 3 p.m. EST with Big Blue Insider’s Dick Gabriel on the call for the UK Sports Network.
