Tuesday, a source close to the UK program told the Big Blue Insider that the Kentucky Wildcats felt as if they had landed Purdue graduate transfer Matt Haarms. Wednesday Kentucky learned this was not the case and that BYU would be the pick. Thursday the center made the news official as he committed to the Cougars.
He is a 7-foot 3-inch center who averaged 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game for the Boilermakers during the 2019-20 season.
Haarms was part of two NCAA Tournament runs at Purdue as he helped lead the Boilermakers to the Sweet 16 in 2018 and Elite Eight in 2019.
At BYU he will play for former Kentucky Wildcat Mark Pope.
