The 2020 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers will have a major Kentucky presence. Four former Wildcats will take the floor when the finals tip-off, with three having been coached by John Calipari.
The Lakers roster features Rajon Rondo, who played for UK under Tubby Smith from 2004-06 and Anthony Davis, who played under Calipari during Kentucky’s 2011-12 national championship season. Miami has two of Calipari’s former Wildcats in Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, who each played one season in Lexington.
Not only will four former Wildcats take the floor in the 2020 NBA Finals, but one former Cat will be on the sidelines while another will be watching from the stands as the roster he formed fights for a title.
Frank Vogel, who is the head coach of the Lakers, was a student manager at UK during the 1996 season and a video coordinator during the 1997 season while former Wildcat player Pat Riley (UK, 1965-67) is Miami’s President and former head coach.
Tuesday, Calipari met with the media via Zoom to preview the Finals. Hear from the head coach of the Wildcats below courtesy of The Boot Store.
