After three years at Kentucky, Nick Richards is finally NBA bound. The 7-foot center was drafted in the second round of Wednesday’s 2020 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans with the 42nd overall pick.
While New Orleans made the pick, the Pelicans traded the pick to the Charlotte Hornets, meaning Richards will head to the Queen City.
Richards struggled in each of his first two seasons at Kentucky but had a breakout 2019-20 junior season. He averaged a career-high 14 points per game with 7.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks.
In Charlotte, he will join his former Kentucky teammate of two-years in P.J. Washington, who was drafted by the Hornets 12th overall in 2019. Richards will also team up with former Wildcat Malik Monk.
