Yes we are talking about practice! Metz Camfield, editor of CoachCal.com, had the opportunity to see a summer practice of the UK Basketball team. During an interview on the Big Blue Insider he shared that Kevin Knox worked with the guards in the the practice he viewed. “That’s a big guard, that’s a really big guard. He’s got a beautiful stroke and can handle the ball. I really like his game.”
Fans have wondered about the possible lineups UK would play in this upcoming season. Camfield described a line up that could strike fear into opposing coaches and puts a smile on the face of the UK coach,”You could have potentially Shai (Alexander) at point guard at 6’6″, Hami(do Diallo) at 6’5″ maybe you go 6’9″, 6’9″, 6’10” at the other three positions, that is a possibility. It’s going to be crazy what Coach Cal can do and I think he is excited about those possibilities.”
Also on CoachCal.com there is a series called Meet the Wildcats, it is the first interviews UK basketball freshmen do after getting on campus. One of the most interesting facts Camfield discovered was that Quade Green’s favorite food is Hamburger Helper.
He also described the mentality of this freshmen class, “The thing that I think, stood out the most to me with this freshmen class in particular is the vast majority, if not all, of them seem to have a chip on their shoulder. Now that chip might be different from player to player but they all have something they want to prove to other people.”
During the interview Camfield also discuss his trip with John Calipari, Jarred Vanderbilt and others to Houston after a UK Basketball’s telethon raised over a million dollars to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Calipari went to Houston to see how the money raised, was being used. Camfield described Jarred Vanderbilt, a Houston native, interacting with volunteers and victims, “I was really impressed, we’re talking about a freshmen here, the way he was talking to people and interacting with people just so gracious with his time signing autographs, taking tons of pictures with people, talking about basketball, talking about Houston.”
