The Kentucky Wildcats will take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in the 2019 Belk Bowl. Read all about the match-up here.
After weeks of reading through projections, the Big Blue Nation finally knows where their Wildcats will be going bowling this holiday season.
Sunday, it was announced the Kentucky Wildcats (7-5, 3-5) would take on the Virginia Tech Hokies (8-4, 5-3) in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Dec. 31st.
The 2019 Belk Bowl will mark the 20th all-time meeting between Kentucky and Virginia Tech and the first since 1987. Kentucky leads the all-time series 11-6-2.
The Hokies are coming off an eight-win regular season that saw them earn victories over teams such as Wake Forest, Miami (FL), and North Carolina.
Virginia Tech is coached by Justin Fuente, who’s in his fourth season with the Hokies since taking over for long-time head coach Frank Beamer in 2016.
This will mark the Hokies 27th straight season playing in a bowl game and their second trip to the Belk Bowl with the other being a win over Arkansas in 2016.
As for Kentucky, they found a way to win seven games despite losing the top three quarterbacks on their depth chart to injury and losing two all-time greats who led the program to 10 wins a year ago to the NFL.
This will mark Kentucky’s fourth straight bowl appearance and fourth time the Wildcats will play in a bowl game since Mark Stoops became head coach in 2013.
Unlike Virginia Tech, Kentucky has never participated in the Belk Bowl.
The game will take place at Bank of America Stadium, which is home to the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
