Matthew Mitchell’s 18th ranked Kentucky women’s basketball team picked up their signature win of the 2019-20 season Sunday as they defeated No. 6 Mississippi State by a final score of 73-62.
The upset victory comes just one game removed from an 18 point loss to Arkansas that saw the Wildcats allow 103 points. Sunday, Kentucky held Mississippi State under 70 points as they shot just 38.5% from the field.
In her second game back from injury, Rhyne Howard put on a show as she scored 26 points after shooting 10-22 from the field. Howard also added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Chasity Patterson (15) and Jaida Roper (14) also scored in double-figures to help UK pull off the upset.
With a huge win in the books, Kentucky will prepare for an important week of conference play as they’ll travel south to take on Ole Miss Thursday and host No. 1 South Carolina Sunday at Memorial Coliseum.
