For the first time in program history, the Kentucky Wildcats Volleyball team are national champions.

The Wildcats defeated the Texas Longhorns in four sets in Saturday night’s national title match in Omaha, Nebraska, to capture both the program’s first title and the first in SEC history.

Kentucky was led by star junior Alli Stumler who recorded 26 kills and 29 points, while National Player of the Year and senior Madison Lilley set 59 assists to solidify Tournament MVP honors.

Coached by Craig Skinner, the Wildcats won their fourth straight SEC title during the 2020 season that due to the COVID-19 pandemic was split between the fall and spring. Skinner, who has been at the helm of the UK program since 2005, was named National Coach of the Year last week.

Kentucky defeated UNLV, Western Kentucky, Purdue and Washington en route to Saturday’s title match against Texas. The team will return home to Lexington Sunday and hold a celebration at Memorial Coliseum.
