Team Records and Series Notes

  • Kentucky moves to 2-0 on the season, while North Alabama moves to 1-1.
    • This was the first all-time meeting between Kentucky and North Alabama in women’s basketball.
    • Kentucky now leads the all-time series, 1-0.
  • Kentucky is in its 48th season with a 865-557 (.608) all-time record.
  • For the 13th time since 2007, UK began its season ranked or receiving votes in the national polls as the Associated Press tabbed Kentucky at No. 13 in its preseason poll.
    • This marks the third straight season that Kentucky has started ranked in the top 15 of the AP Top 25.
  • Kyra Elzy is in her second season as the head coach of the Wildcats, holding a 20-9 overall record.
    • Elzy is 13-2 at home, including a 11-2 record inside Memorial Coliseum and 2-0 mark inside Rupp Arena.
    • Elzy is 7-0 at home against a non-conference opponent with all seven wins coming in Memorial Coliseum.
  • Kentucky is 502-178 all-time at home. UK is 471-161 at Memorial Coliseum and 30-19 at Rupp Arena.
    • The losses are off by two because UK has played two games inside those two venues that are not allowed to be considered “home games” per NCAA Tournament rules.
  • Kentucky will be back in action Sunday at top-10 ranked Indiana. The game will tip at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN and the UK Sports Network.

Team Notes

  • Kentucky used the starting combination of senior guards Jazmine Massengill, Robyn Benton and Rhyne Howard, junior forward Dre’una Edwards and sophomore wing Treasure Hunt.
    • UK is 1-0 this season with those starting five. In two games, UK has used two different starting combinations.
    • Rhyne Howard scored first for Kentucky in the game. It is the first time this season she has scored first. UK is now 1-0 when she scores first.
    • Jada Walker was the first sub for Kentucky. It was the first time she has been the first Wildcat off the bench.
    • Kentucky won the opening tip with Dre’una Edwards in the center circle. UK is 2-0 this season when it wins the opening tip.
  • Kentucky led 22-14 at the end of the first quarter, going 8-of-16 from the field and 1-of-3 from long range.
    • Twelve of Kentucky’s 22 first-quarter points were in the paint. UK also had a 11-6 rebounding margin in the first 10 minutes.
  • The Wildcats had a 32-22 lead midway through the second quarter before a 9-0 run by UNA cut the UK lead to 31-32.
    • A 3 by Jazmine Massengill gave UK a 35-31 lead at halftime.
    • UK made just one of its last eight field goals in the second quarter.
    • North Alabama missed each of its last four shots.
  • Kentucky came out firing in the third quarter, scoring a new school-record 36 points in the stanza.
    • UK was 15-of-23 from the field in the period with 24 of the 36 points scored in the paint.
    • UNA was 8-of-18 from the field in the third quarter.
    • Four of the eight makes for UNA were from long range in the period.
  • The Wildcats ended the game on a 24-0 run, which was overall part of a 27-2 run to end the game.
    • During that stretch, UNA missed each of its last six field goals and did not score for the final 7:28 of the game.
    • UK was 11-of-18 from the field in the fourth quarter, including 3-of-4.
  • UK finished the game 40-of-78 from the field for 51 percent.
    • This is the second straight game that UK has shot 50 percent or better from the field.
  • UK recorded a season-high 58 paint points. This was the second-straight games UK has recorded 50 or more paint points.
  • Kentucky had 30 second-change points in the game, which was the most for a UK team since also having 30 on Nov. 19, 2014 vs. Morehead State.
  • UK scored 63 points in the second half, which is just one off the school record for points in a half, which is 64.
  • UK’s 24 offensive rebounds was its most since it had 24 vs. Alabama State on Nov. 7, 2018.

Player Notes

  • Senior guard Rhyne Howard scored 20 points with 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals
    • This was the first double-double of the season for Howard and the 18th of her career.
    • For her career, Howard has scored 1,690 career points sitting seventh in UK history in points scored. She needs two more to tie Maci Morris for sixth.
    • Howard ranks second in school history in career scoring average at 19.9, while she is ninth in field-goals made with 589, third in career 3s made with 217 and third in career 3-point field-goal percentage at 38.1. She is also fourth in UK history in steals per game at 2.329.
  • Senior guard Robyn Benton scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting with five rebounds and two assists.
    • Benton has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.
    • She also had hit a 3-pointer in back-to-back games.
    • Tonight was Benton’s first career start at Kentucky.
  • Redshirt junior Dre’una Edwards led Kentucky in scoring for the second straight game with 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting
    • Edwards has scored 20 or more in back-to-back games for the first time in her UK career.
    • Her 12 field-goals made were a new career high.
    • She also added five rebounds and two steals.
  • Sophomore wing Treasure Hunt recorded 10 rebounds in the game with three assists.
    • Her seven offensive rebounds were a career-high.
  • Senior guard Jazmine Massengill scored seven points with seven rebounds and two blocks.
  • Freshman guard Jada Walker scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting with a team-best five assists.
  • Junior guard Emma King scored five points with two made field goals, including a 3.
    • The two made field goals tied a career high.
    • She also recorded two blocks, which were the first two blocks of her career.
    • Her one steal tied a career high.
  • Freshman guard Kristen Crenshaw-Gill saw her first time as a Wildcat, hitting a 3.
  • Redshirt junior post Olivia Owens scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting with five rebounds and two assists.
    • The two assists were a career high.
